A visit to George at Asda

This week, FTCT was kindly invited by Ali, (far left), Project Manager to Andrew Moore – Executive Managing Director of George, to meet with her colleagues, Angela, Rebecca,
Mickayla and Andrew from the ‘Colleague Voice’ and ‘People Team’, from George at Asda, at their head office in Lutterworth. George employs 3,500 of the total 179,000 Asda workforce. The aim of the meeting was for Anna, FTCT, to give an overview of the charity and explore ways in which they could introduce us to their employees, whose children we may be able to help.
As an organisation, Asda are incredibly supportive of their colleagues and have a strong community feel running throughout the company which is backed by their ‘People Team’. Each store has a ‘People Advisor’ for colleagues to go to, to voice any concerns to management. Asda provides further support for their staff with the Asda Foundation.
The team was very receptive to our charity and as a result, our FTCT promotional poster will shortly be displayed on screens throughout Head Office, giving our details to employees whose children may need our help. From January 2012, we hope to develop our partnership with George, talking directly to their ‘Colleague Voice’ and ‘People Team’ and working on a possible feature in their colleague newsletter, The Bulletin.
It was fantastic to meet the team at George – thank you again for your time – and we really look forward to staying in touch! If you know anyone who works in a fashion or textile company, or grocery retailer that also sells clothing, please contact us on 0300 123 9002 or visit www.ftct.org.uk
