Last Wednesday 22nd August, FTCT were beneficiary for a very special, ‘Jubilee & Olympic’ themed auction, hosted by chic Italian interiors company Natuzzi, at their Tottenham Court Road Store. Up for grabs was a unique King sofa and two Queen Chairs, both covered in bespoke hand-knitted Union Jack fabric, designed by London based knitwear and interiors designer, Melanie Porter.

FTCT were chosen for the event as a result of our royal connection,  Her Majesty The Queen is our patron, and for the fact that the UK soft furnishings industry is one of the trade areas covered by our grants criteria.

Guests at the event included staff and customers from some of Natuzzi’s prestigious London stores, including Harrods and Highgate and guests from the fashion and textile industry including, Bridgette Kelly, International Marketing Consultant for the British Wool Marketing Board and FTCT Trustees Amit Chowdhury and Dave Shepherd.

Our fabulous auctioneer for the evening was the wonderful Richard Birtchnell, The London Toastmaster, who generously donated his time to host the evenings proceedings.

The auction was a great success, raising a massive £2,000 for FTCT! All three winning bids miraculously came from Bridgette Kelly on behalf of the British Wool Marketing Board, who are now the proud owners of both the sofa and the two chairs. We have been informed that all three pieces will shortly be winging their way to the British Wool Marketing Board’s New York offices, to promote British manufacture abroad-how exciting!

We would like to say a huge thank you to the whole team at Natuzzi and to Richard, Melanie and Bridgette for making the evening such a success.
