Could £250 help your family?

If you are a parent working* in any aspect of fashion and textiles, you can apply for a small grant of £250, to help pay for one-off items such as bedding, clothing, learning tools, etc. Here’s how one of these grants helped Lisa, who works part-time at Topshop.
Lisa is Mum to twin boys, Carone and Cameo (11). Soon to start secondary school, Lisa contacted the Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust for help to purchase new school uniforms and PE kits for the boys.
As a single parent of four children, Lisa was struggling to balance bills and purchase big items for the family. The cost of the uniforms was just too much for Lisa to handle by herself. Finding FTCT on Turn2Us-an online directory of grant-giving charities-Lisa contacted us to apply for a small grant of £250.
“At the time I was feeling like a failure and I was very emotional and down. I felt like I couldn’t provide for my children, but then I knew that as a mother I have to do what is best for my children even if that means seeking help from a charity.
I found that by asking for help my perception of myself changed and now I feel good about myself. I am proud to know I did the best by my boys. I no longer feel embarrassed, I could tell my friends and family about what I had begun to do and I no longer had to keep my situation hidden
I’d say to any other parent who are going through a tough time is DO IT, FTCT is here to help you. They don’t judge and genuinely want to help. A grant from FTCT will give you peace of mind.”
