Last week, FTCT were delighted to be chosen charity at Fast Fashion London, a fabulous new trade show for the international fast fashion market. After hearing about our charity, the wonderful team from Fast Fashion London invited FTCT to have a stand at the show, to raise awareness among visitors and exhibitors of the support we can give.

Also taking place at the show, was the final of the Young Designer Competition, a brand new award celebrating the next generation of UK design talent. We were delighted to have Jess Brown, FTCT Trustee , and Head of Fashion, Amazon, representing FTCT on the panel of judges, for the award.

Here for your enjoyment, Jess has very kindly written a special FTCT guest blog post, about her experience at the show. Take it away Jess…

“I was delighted to be asked to represent FTCT to judge The Fast Fashion Exhibition’s Young Designer Award last week. I was part of a panel which included the legendary fashion journalist Hilary Alexander, who had the opportunity to quiz five super-talented graduates (or soon-to-be graduates) about the fantastic collections they had created.

It was difficult to choose just one winner and, as such we gave the top prize to star-in-the-making Aduu Juma Musadi for his brilliantly executed collection of monochrome printed men’s shirts, coats and knitwear, but we also awarded a highly commended prize. The second prize went to Matthew O’Brien for his exploration of technology in fashion design – he is a real Hussein Chalayan in the making.

It was great to represent FTCT at an industry event that also championed young people. It really reminded me of what our charity stands for – giving young people opportunities and the support they need to succeed, children like Cassie, aged 17yrs. It continues to be extremely rewarding hearing the stories of how the children we help develop and progress as they soar to reach their potential.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to Jess for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to represent FTCT at the show. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Alex, Wioletta and the team from Fast Fashion London for inviting us to be part of their wonderful show. A special thanks too, to the fabulous Tamara and Paige from Bright Light PR for all their support at the show.

If you, or someone you know working in the UK fashion and textile industry, needs support for their child, please get in touch or visit the grants page on our website, to find out more about the support we can give.
