No-one ever wants to get into debt, but sometimes life’s changes can make it hard to avoid. The good news is, most debt can be solved with a bit of smart financial planning. So, why not make 2014 the year your family goes debt free. Read on, for some great tips on getting started.
For most of the families FTCT support, debt is caused by an unexpected change in circumstances, like a partner dying, personal illness, divorce, mental health problems or losing your job (see our grants page for full details on how an FTCT could help you).
Whatever the reason, the most important thing you can do is get a disciplined handle on your debt and your spending. Facing up to debt can be a tough process, but it’s the first step in finding a solution to your money worries.
There is lots of free, confidential help and advice available, so there’s no need to pay a debt management company to sort out your money worries. We recommend you get FREE advice from one of the following organisations:
StepChange Debt Charity is a registered charity that provides free and anonymous advice over the phone and online to over 350,000 people per year. They provide free debt management plans and other debt solutions.
National Debtline provides a free, confidential and independent helpline for people with debt problems in England, Wales and Scotland.
Payplan is an advice organisation that provides free, confidential and independent advice over the phone and online.
And don’t forget to visit your local Citizens Advice , who can provide free, independent and confidential advice, on a one-to-one basis.
Grants for the little things
FTCT grants can provide a short-term solution, while you get your debts under control.
Starting at £500, our grants can help to provide education and well-being essentials for your child, such as school uniform, school necessities (including specialist equipment) and extra tuition, as well as basics like clothing, bedding, shoes and essentials for the home (such as white goods).
With a few simple steps, you can free yourself from the stress and worry of money troubles. So what are you waiting for, start your plan today.
