School uniform grants

Since June 2016, our fast-track grants have helped to provide 274 children with school uniforms, clothing and essential items. If you were made redundant from BHS or Austin Reed or are being made redundant Jaeger and would like to apply for a grant, please read on. 

We are currently accepting enquiries for grants, but please note that grants awarded will be paid after 1st July 2017.

If you’re thinking of applying for an FTCT grant, we encourage you to apply for school uniform for the new school term in September 2017, plus any other essential items your child needs for the year ahead, such as clothing, bedding or winter shoes.

Please fill in an online enquiry form detailing the items you would like support for, and we will consider your request.

All completed enquiry forms will be assessed in date order, and if successful, payments will be made after 1 July 2017.

Here’s how our enquiry process works:

STEP 1: Fill in an online enquiry form, explaining where you worked in fashion and textiles and everything you need funding for.

STEP 2: Once you click the SEND ENQUIRY button, your form will go into our enquiry queue. We deal with all enquiries (including second applications) in date order, to make it fair for all our families.

STEP 3: Look out for an email from the grants team (usually within 14 working days of clicking SEND ENQUIRY) to advise what we could likely fund and the correct application form for you to fill in.

Making a second application?

If you have already received an FTCT grant, you can apply for a second grant six months after the date of the original award letter. Please make sure you have returned all your original receipts from the first grant, before enquiring about a second grant. All receipts can be returned by email to grants@ftct.org.uk. 

Q: How much am I entitled to?

A:Our grants are discretionary ie they are not an entitlement. As a charity, each grant will be assessed on a case by case basis, to ensure that the application meets our grant criteria.

No two families are the same and we all face different challenges as parents. That’s why FTCT grants are available in a variety of amounts, in one-off or ongoing payments. Grant amounts are tailored to suit your family’s needs, so the best thing to do is write down everything you would like help with and we can advise you on what’s possible.

Q: I have already received an FTCT grant, can I apply again?

A: Yes. But first we need to receive all original receipts from the items purchased with your first grant.  All receipts can be returned by email to grants@ftct.org.uk.

Once we have received and acknowledged the return of your original receipts from the items purchased with your first grant, we will consider a second application six months after the date of your original grant 

NOTE: As a condition of the grant, item receipts (original) must be returned to FTCT within one month of payment receipt, to demonstrate the full funding amount has been spent as agreed. Any unused funding, or funding used to buy items not agreed in the terms of the grant award letter, will need to be reimbursed to the charity.

You might also want to contact another charity called the BHS Trust Fund. The charity is a completely separate organisation from the company BHS and offers a range of support for ex BHS employees.
