Sophie & Rosemary’s Story
It’s our pleasure to share with you the success story of Sophie and Rosemary, just one of the families who have been helped by an education grant from FTCT.
Sophie is 11 years old and has been diagnosed with an Audio Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Fine Motor Dyspraxia. Her mum Rosemary is a Credit Control Team Leader for Supergroup PLC .
Life at main stream school was a real struggle for Sophie. The class size and noise background made it hard for to follow instruction. She was bullied by her classmates, because of her difficulties and would often say she was stupid. Her self-esteem became very low.
Sophie was due to move to the local comprehensive, but Rosemary quickly realised that she would really struggle and be left behind, without specialist teaching support. Rosemary found out about FTCT on line, when looking for charities which fund educational support.
“I work for Supergroup PLC a major fashion retailer, as a Credit Control Team Leader, so I thought I would see if I was eligible to apply.”
After a quick application process, FTCT awarded a grant for Sophie to attend a local school which specialises in helping children with learning needs.
Rosemary told FTCT, “The grant has put a smile back on everyone’s faces. Sophie’s confidence has grown in such a short space of time, she no longer dreads going to school. After her second day, she came home and said, ‘mum there are other children like me, I’m not the only one’. We are so grateful to FTCT for their help. ”
