Caroline’s husband use to work for a yarn manufacturer. After hearing about FTCT through school, the family received a grant towards therapy equipment for their son Jonathan (14 years). Here Caroline talks about their experience working with FTCT.

“When Jonathan was five months old, we found out that he had suffered a major stroke, prior to birth. Over time, we noticed he was unable to use the right side of his body, in particular his right arm and hand.”

“Even today, simple things that most of us take for granted, everyday things like picking up  a ball or opening a jar are almost impossible for Jonathan. Physiotherapy for his condition is not available on the NHS, so we have been self-funding sessions since Jonathan was 2 years old.”

“We found out about a pioneering new therapy glove- the Saebo glove- which has the potential to be life changing. But combined with the therapy costs he would need, we simply couldn’t’ afford it.”

“We heard about FTCT through Jonathan’s school and called to see if we would be eligible for a grant. My husband used to work at a yarn manufacturer, so we fitted their criteria.”

“I felt nervous about contacting FTCT. We’d been turned down by another charity, so we were feeling very apprehensive. But from the moment we spoke to the grants team, we felt totally at ease. The team are so friendly and professional.

“The glove has made a massive difference to how Jonathan’s hand functions and means he can now even do some tasks without the glove! His physiotherapist has said that Jonathan’s progress with his new glove ‘is nothing short of a miracle’.”

“Receiving the grant has really boosted our self-esteem too. Giving Jonathan this opportunity and seeing the amazing progress that Johnathan is making, makes us really proud we applied.”

“To anyone thinking of applying to FTCT, please do it – just pick up the phone. It’s a really good charity – easy to work with. You’ll never look back”
