FTCT understands how crucial a supportive study space is for children, especially during challenging times. Recently, we had the privilege of assisting a family in setting up a new study space for their child just in time for the summer exams. Here is their story.

Leaving an abusive relationship is a daunting step. For one parent, it meant starting over with a 16-year-old child and facing the numerous challenges that come with single parenthood. "I applied for a grant after separating from my partner, who was abusive (mentally and physically)." "Together with my 16-year-old, I had to start my life over again. It was quite challenging at times. But as I always say - always a lesson, never a regret."

The parent also highlighted the situation they faced: "My child didn’t have a bed, just a mattress on the floor, no wardrobe, no desk, and no laptop (so much needed before their GCSE exams)." A proper study environment was essential for the child's success, but financial difficulties made it seem impossible to achieve.

It was when a colleague at work mentioned our charity that the parent decided to apply for an FTCT grant. "When we got approved for the grant, I couldn’t believe it happened to us. I was over the moon! I received the money within a few days and was able to furnish my child's room properly."

With the help of our grant, the family was able to create a comfortable study environment. "We could buy a wardrobe, a new bed, mattress and bedding, a desk and chair, and a laptop.”

Grateful for the support received, the parent offered some advice to others in similar situations: "If you are thinking of applying, then don’t think - just do it! It changed our lives. I highly recommend it."

At FTCT, we are dedicated to making a difference, one family at a time. Stories like this remind us of the profound impact our support can have. If you or someone you know is in need, please reach out. We are here to help.
